The “Do Not Call” list May Be Irrelevant

You might call this the Duck’s tip of the week (more like year). I just stumbled across something that most people might have already figured out…or maybe not. This morning, I got a call on my landline from a company referring to itself on my caller ID as “Hellcom.” How nice. Would I want to do business with a company with a name like that? I thought that was the pseudonym for Verizon. I had to check it out. It seems 800notes.com has some info from previous posters on this number. Someone mentioned on one of the posts that they had a Panasonic phone that blocked out any unwanted numbers. I went online to my phone company and the service is available at the carrier level. Yes as easy as *64 then pound and then the number and pound again or just #01# for the latest number. The next time they call they get an automatic hang up. Sure beats remembering to add your number to the “do not call” list every year or two (or whatever the term is). Plus, you can block out the ex-girlfriends number, and other calls (political) not necessarily covered by the government’s list.

I expect that all mobile phones have the same or similar feature. I rarely get any junk calls on that number because I don’t just give it out to just anyone. The main reason I keep a landline is that I give that number to companies I do business with and or other entities that may have the urge to call and try to upsell me. My landline is basically the gatekeeper for mostly unwanted calls and now I should be getting less of those. I went through my entire caller ID and quickly cross checked it against 800 notes (took about 10 minuted) and blocked all those junk numbers out with the flick of my wrist. Ain’t technology great? – D.A.
